Linda Kaplan Thaler is a huge hypocrit. She writes a book on the power of kindness yet she is now sitting next to the likes of Gene Simmons, helping to soul rape auditioners on the new show CBS Jingles. They start insulting some auditioners as soon as they enter the room. How does that equate to her book. I guess her philosophy is thrown out the window at the chance to market herself and make a buck. What a joke.

One of my best friends was a Samoan named Justin. He was a huge man (400+ pounds) who suffered from narcolepsy. I was incarcerated in a minimum-security boy's home at the time, and he was the only one who actually cared about me. Even though his job was to supervise and control me, his humanity and yearning to understand was apparent. His cousin worked there too. His name was Illema and he was a pro NFL athlete with the San Diego Chargers franchise. I would make fun of him and say he was an extra from the film "Planet of the Apes." It is only through Allah's guiding hand that he did not crush my face and send me to an early grave.

I had never thought of apologizing as a "potent reputation enhancer" before. It makes sense though. It's a great way to set a good example.

I was never good at smiling, it always seem so forced. I reckon I had a lot of life taken out of me as a kid by an abusive string of step-dads and mommy's boyfriends. I know what you mean though. I just wish I could bypass that initial impression and tell people what I am about.

Never ever fart during romantic date! Don't fart in front of your girlfriend. That's so rude. But my roommate asked me, "Can you fart when you are with your boyfriend?" I said, "Why? What kind of question is that?" She replied, "Because I think if you can, your relationship with him has built. There's trust there." Ugh... it's rude and nothing else...

Hey,

A curious post, thank you for sharing.

"If a book needs to remind us to be nice, what odes that say out the world we live in?" A valid point- perhaps in days gone by, where people conversed rather than vegetating in front of a screen, or got to know their neighbours or colleges and shared a thing or two, it wouldn't be needed.

Today, much of this past is no longer (indeed the opposite is encouraged in mainstream culture) and such an encouragement is well merited in my view- it in our inherent nature to be nice, kind and share, just the consumerist and very individualist culture we live in overrides this humanity within us.

Kind regards,

Dont be sad
